The game does LOTR great and the story is good but the game hasn't aged well at all and runs abysmally on modern pcs. It's tolerable until you get to Rohan then it just takes a nosedive performance wise because of the wide open areas I guess. Game is also pretty predatory with it's cash shop so be careful with that.

I think a lot of if you consider it worth playing is going to come down to how much you like Lord of the Rings. The game does a fantastic job of recreating Tolkien's world. If you hear about a random town or landmark in one of the books, odds are you can find it in game. Additionally, the game has a very helpful and tight nit community.

If you like The Lord of the Rings A LOT in general it's really worth it. If you like LoTR and MMORPGs A LOT, it's even more worth it. If you only like MMORPGs, but don't care about LoTR, the chances to like it are 50/50. Beyond that it's up to you, I personally play LOTRO, because: 1) I really like The Lord of the Rings 2) I really like playing
