Instead, it got around 18. I've had it checked several times. The first time they said it only got 17.8, but they couldn't find a reason why. My 2001 Focus (Zetec engine) is getting terrible gas mileage in my opinion. (It has about 133000 kms which is almost 83000 miles) I bought the car this past summer. Done no maintenance to it yet and have no records of what (if anything) was done before I bought it. The Fusion that gets the best overall mileage is the Fusion Energi Plug-in Hybrid. This gets 42 MPG combined city and highway, and an extremely impressive 103 MPGe when you combine the electric power system. If you look at just the Ford Fusion Hybrid you will get 43 miles per gallon in the city and 41 on the highway.
