To be fair, the game does a bad job of showing it. It only ever animated the full hookblade. But concept art shows that there is a blade piece, and the hook piece which slides alongside the blade and locks in place when extended.

Yeah and they don’t make an extra knife for field use because even just the one became limited over the years because of the lack of the special alloy recipe and making 2 limited hidden blades were redundant.
